The James O'Connell Family

James O'Connell was born in Ireland in 1827 and married, Maria Cummins, also born in Ireland in 1842. We have no idea who there parents were, where in Ireland they were born, or where and when they married. We do know the family emigrated possibly during the Irish famine and settled in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio since they were found in the 1880 census listed as living at 437 2nd St. and as follows:

  • O'Connell:
  • James 53 carsealer
  • Maria 38 wife
  • William 20 son errand boy
  • Thomas 18 son laborer
  • Mary Ellen16 daugh chair caner
  • Annie 14 daugh
  • Maggie 12 daugh
  • Lizzie 10 daugh
  • James 8 son
  • John 6 son
  • Hannah 4 daugh
  • Peter 2 son
  • The eldest son, whose full name was William Francis O'Connell, was born 21/10/1857 in Cincinnati. He married Katherine Maley (see text: Notes on Maley & Quinn Families), the daughter of Patrick and Mary Quinn on 15/8/1888 in Cincinnati, Ohio. William is the grandfather of Pat (O'Connell) Brassard. William's family according to the soundex cards for the census of 1900 was living at 421 Tusculum Ave. in Cincinnati at the time and consisted of the following members:

  • William F. 38 husband b. Ohio
  • Katherine 34 wife b. Jul 1865 Eng.
  • James 10 b. June 1889
  • William A. 8 b. Dec. 1891

  • John D. is the father of Pat (O'Connell) Brassard. He married Ruth Leanora Baxter in 1919 at Washington, D. C. Pat was born on August 22,1930 at Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii.

We are trying to research the early history of this family. If you know anything about James O'Connell and his wife Maria Cummins we would certainly appreciate hearing from you. We would also be glad to help out anyone with their research. Ted & Pat (O'Connell) Brassard
