John was born on July 14th, 1803 in Georgetown, Scott Co., KY.  John's father was Richard Montgomery Gano and his mother was Elizabeth Ewing.  His paternal grandparents were Rev. John Gano and Sarah Stites.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 84 on October 14th, 1887 in Centerville, Bourbon Co., KY.
