Baptist was born in 1519 in Fortesset, Gloucestershire, England.  Baptist's father was Thomas Hicks and his mother was Margaret Atwood.  His paternal grandfather was John Hicks and his paternal grandmother is Joan Damer; his maternal grandparents were James Atwood and Alicia Payne.  He was an only child.
