    Sara Roelofs, daughter of Anneke Jans and Roeloff Jansen Van Maesterlandt was born in New Amsterdam, New York. She married Surgeon Hans Kierstede, lived on the present northeast corner of Pearl and Whitehall streets. She afterward married Cornelius Van Borsum, the owner of the ferry to Long Island, and subsequently Elbert Elbertsen. She was a great proficient in the Indian languages, and acted as interpreter between Stuyvesant and the Esopus and Wappingers, the Agh-in-sack, the Long Island, and the State Island Indians, when their treaty was made with Stuyvesant in the spring of 1664. The great session was held in the council chamber at Fort Amsterdam, where the various representative chiefs assembled. That was the last treaty of peace between the Hollanders and the Indians, and was signed under a salute from the guns of the Fort.
    
    She had ten children:

        6.Lucas Kierstede, bp. Sep. 23, 1657.
        7.Catharyn Kierstede, bp. Jan. 4, 1660.
        8.Jacob Kierstede, bp. Jun. 4, 1662; d. in infancy.
        9.Jacobus Kierstede, bp. Nov. 28, 1663.
       10.Rachel Kierstede, bp. Sep. 13, 1665.
    
    After Kierstede's death she married in 1669 Cornelis Van Borsum, of Brooklyn Ferry, whom she outlived; then in 1683 married Elbert Elbertszen Stoofhof of New York.
    
    She left a lengthy will dated July 29, 1693 in which first are named her children by Kierstede.
