Robert I was born in 0870 in Bourgogne, France.  Robert I's father was Robert IV "Fortis" of France and his mother was Adelaide of the Holy Roman Empire.  His maternal grandfather was Hugues II of Alsace and his maternal grandmother is Bava of Alsace.  He was an only child.  He died in Soissons, France.
