My gr.-gr. grandfather, Daniel Sullivan was a school teacher in County Cork, Ireland. He was born there about 1800 and died in Ireland before 1840. His wife Ellen (Hurlihy) Sullivan migrated to Bangor, Maine with her daughter Johannah about that time. Ellen, who was born in 1807 in County Cork, Ireland, ran a boarding house in Bangor for some years, and died there on 19/3/1872. A Swedish seaman by the name of Thomas Oliver Simons rented a room at her boarding house and he was smitten by Ellen's daughter, Johannah. Thomas, whose full Swedish name was most likely, Thomas Olaf Simmonson could not speak Gaelic, nor could Hannah (she was called both Hannah and Johannah) speak Swedish. My grandmother, Rose Perkins, always told me the language of love needs no words. Thus it came about that Johannah married Thomas and they eventually had six children all born in Bangor during the mid to late 1800Õs. As for Daniel and Ellen's ancestors we have no knowledge at the present and have little hope of knowing more about them. The extent of our knowledge is written here in the hope that someday someone will read it who knows where in County Cork they came from and who their parents were. If youy know any more about these two people we would surely appreciate hearing from you and if we can help in your research in any way we would be glad to help you out---Ted & Pat (OÕConnell) Brassard
